Orange County Smile Generation visits Ethiopia after raising funds for clean water
Two representatives of Irvine-based Smile Generation, a dental referral service, accompanied actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith earlier this month on a trip to Ethiopia after raising funds to provide global clean water for the nonprofit organization charity: water.
In 2010 the Smiths began a birthday campaign that raised more than $679,000 globally for the nonprofit that provides clean drinking water to approximately 2 million people through more than 1,000 water projects. The Smile Generation was one of the top fundraisers, and Director of Marketing Matt Hall and Dr. John Nosti, a dentist from a San Marcos practice part of the Smile Generation network, attended the charity: water trip.
"It makes you proud of the work Smile Generation-approved doctors and offices have done in the continual fundraising for such a worthwhile cause. I wish I could take them all with me to Ethiopia to see the wells,” Hall said. “When you meet the people you're providing a better life for, it is very special.”
Ethiopia, which sits on the Horn of Africa, is the most populated landlocked country in the world. More than 50 million Ethiopians go without access to clean water.
The group was able to see charity: water’s 31st drilling project, which will provide more than 400 people with access to clean water, and visited five other villages to see water wells in different stages.
