O.C. Auto Show to host charity challenge during its expo
When the Orange County International Auto Show returns to Anaheim next month, local groups will be lining up to take on a very uncomfortable challenge, courtesy of a contest offered by Nissan in promoting its 2013 Cube. The contest, known as ‘Cram the Cube for Cash,’ dares local fraternities and sororities to try and fill a Nissan Cube with as many bodies as possible. The winning team will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize for the charity of its choice. While aimed university students, any organization with a charitable focus is encouraged to participate.
Similar contests have been held at other auto shows across the country, according to Auto Show officials. The current record for filling the car stands at 20 students and was set at the Washington Auto Show with students from American, George Washington and Howard Universities.
“We are thrilled to offer local organizations an opportunity to raise some money and have some fun at this year’s show,” said John Sackrison, director of the O.C. International Auto Show. “We encourage any local organization to come down and give it a try, and perhaps set a new world record.”
Visitors at the auto show will also have the opportunity to test drive more than 80 new vehicles, including models from Chrysler and FIAT, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen. High-end automakers like Bentley, Lamborghini, Lexus, McLaren, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce will showcase some of their most exotic offerings, and Acura’s display will feature the super car driven by Robert Downey Jr. in this summer’s blockbuster movie, The Avengers.
The O.C. Auto Show, which will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center, will begin on Thursday, October 4 and conclude on Sunday, October 7. Patrons will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Motor Trend magazine with their ticket purchase. For more information about the Auto Show or to puchase e-tickets, visit autoshowoc.com.
