• updated 09/25/2012 1:25PM Chapman welcomes new dean of business school With the return of the academic year, Chapman University in Orange welcomed students, faculty and staff back to campus last month; among them, one noted newcomer takes his place as the head of one of the university’s most prestigious schools. Reginald H. Gilyard assumed the role of dean of the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics
  
  Gilyard takes on the role following the retirement of Dean Arthur Kraft, who announced his retirement last year. He was selected following a national search from among a strong pool of highly qualified candidates, according to a faculty-wide email from Chapman University’s chancellor, Dr. Daniele Struppa, announcing the appointment.
  
  The Argyros school’s new dean brings a host of experiences with him to his new job. Gilyard holds a master’s degree in computer systems engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree in mathematics and operations research from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
  
  A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Gilyard served as a program manager for nine years, where he was responsible for the development, implementation and fielding of global intelligence systems. He also holds a Harvard MBA.
  
  “The University is extraordinarily fortunate to recruit an individual with Reggie’s attributes and leadership abilities. His interest in being part of the Chapman family illustrates our growing regional and national presence, and suggests exciting new opportunities for the Argyros School,”Dr. Struppa said in the email.
  
  Most recently, Gilyard served as managing director and partner at the Los Angeles office of The Boston Consulting Group, a $3 billion global management consulting firm. At the company, Gilyard headed up the Education Practice arm, which develops and implements academic performance improvement strategies for clients across the education spectrum. He also led recruiting for BCG at the local and national levels.
  
  While at BCG, Gilyard also served on the firm’s America Leadership Team, one of three regional boards supporting the global company with strategies and guidance.
