UCI earns accolades for online outreach
The Internet Marketing Association (IMA) has awarded University of California, Irvine (UCI) with four Impact awards at the 2012 IMA Conference in Las Vegas for their social media work with Facebook and YouTube. The awards recognize efforts by the UCI Extension and UCI OpenCourseWare programs to engage prospective students through social media platforms.
The social media programs aim to engage students interested in a wide range of disciplines, including marketing, project management, education and employee training. UCI Extension won awards for Best Facebook, Best Facebook Like Outreach, Best Webinar Series and Best Webinar/Vodcast/Podcast.
“UC Irvine Extension is constantly changing and expanding out use of Internet technologies in ways that improve communications and enhance the learning process for students and educators around the world. These awards recognize our accomplishments and further validate our mission to drive innovation and excellence through our distance learning program and social media outreach,” said Dr. Gary W. Matkin, dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning and Summer Session at UCI Extension.
UCI is the first University of California campus to join the OpenCourseWare Consortium. The school’s Extension marketing team created a “content rich” webinar series developed by the school’s industry leading course instructors to educate marketing professionals on how to best leverage Internet marketing strategies to grow their business.
The school created a theme to celebrate the Extension program’s 50th anniversary, “50 years, 50 stories.” The program created a custom Facebook app that was designed to increase the number of “Likes” to the main UC Irvine Extension Facebook page while capturing student and alumni testimonials for promotional use in online and offline marketing efforts. Along with the Internet Marketing Webinar Series, the “Open Chemistry” project focuses on publishing a full free undergraduate and partial graduate program of 13 or more quarter-length courses available to people world wide.
