O.C. designer and ad firm suit up to help men get back to work
Irvine-based advertising firm HEILBrice has joined forces with menswear designer David August for a bicoastal campaign to outfit underprivileged men with professional wardrobes in order to help them reenter the workforce. The “Suited for Change” partnership will supply men in Los Angeles and New York with lightly used suits, shoes and accessories that will enable them to successfully interview for and receive new jobs.
Costa Mesa-based clothier David August is currently collecting gently used business attire from its customers and partners for the effort. All donations will benefit the male graduates of the transition programs at both the Los Angeles and New York City Rescue Missions. David August is complementing its outreach effort by placing an information card about the program in the pocket of each suit in its Costa Mesa showroom. As an incentive, donors to the program will receive a 10 percent discount on their next David August suit purchase.
Hal Brice, founder and CEO of HEILBrice, conceived the idea for “Suited for Change” after he visited the Los Angeles Mission and learned of the mission’s struggle to supply its nearly 1,700 transition graduates with proper business attire.
“Having a suit that fits and looks sharp can help determine the success of our graduates,” said Joe Little, the public relations manager at the NYC Rescue Mission. “We are so grateful to David August and HEILBrice for the role they are playing in getting these men back to their families and into a job.”
Ivan Klassen, director of Community Partnerships at the Los Angeles Mission, echoed Little’s sentiment. “It is our goal at the L.A. Mission to truly deliver holistic change,” he said. “These suits are one of the transforming pieces of the puzzle that is [the graduates’] newly changed life.”
