Mitsubishi Motors partners with nonprofit to keep children safe
Cypress-based Mitsubishi Motors has partnered with nonprofit organization Kids Safety First to conduct inspection checks of children’s safety seats at Mitsubishi dealerships in 11 states, including Arizona, California and Illinois.
Car accidents are the leading cause of death among children ages 3 to 14 years old, and research shows that 73 percent of child restraints, including child safety seats, are not used properly. Because of this, Kids Safety First will host informational sessions this fall, instructing parents how to properly choose, install, and use their child restraint systems for their cars.
"Your children rely on you to help keep them safe," said Jorgen Weterrings, co-founder of Kids Safety First. "We created the program because of our own experiences that child safety seats and booster seats were difficult to select and even more difficult to install correctly. Providing child safety seat inspections is a critical resource for parents and caregivers."
Dorel Juvenile Group, the largest global manufacturer of children’s car seats, will also contribute to the effort by donating $1,000 and replacing unsafe and expired seats.
"The safety of children while riding in a motor vehicle is at the forefront of our mission,” said Dave Taylor, president and chief executive officer of Dorel Juvenile Group. “We believe our partnership with Kids Safety First allows us to reach hundreds of families and truly make a meaningful difference in their lives."
