CSU Fullerton launches $1M endowment campaign
Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics has launched a $1 million endowment campaign, kicking off the program at the Oct. 25 Economic Forecast Conference. More than 800 business, community and government leaders attended the seminar lead by Mihaylo College’s Dean Anil Puri in a discussion of what is to come for the future of the economic forecast.
The CSUF Mihaylo College and the Orange County Business Council sponsored the event. The endowment campaign launches with the announcement that the first pledge to support and maintain the college’s annual economic forecast and analysis comes from Cal State Fullerton alumnus James D. Woods.
A Fullerton alum, chairman emeritus and longtime supporter, Woods and his wife, Jeanette, pledged $500,000 to kick off the campaign. As former Baker Hughes Inc. CEO, Woods began his career at the CSUF Mihaylo College in 1967, working and attending night classes. Woods was honored with the Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1980 and after many corporate ventures retired in 1997. In 2006, Woods was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters by the university for his business leadership and philanthropy. Currently, Woods serves on the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics Dean’s Advisory Board and is recognized throughout the Mihaylo department.
"My career wouldn't have been possible without the CSU system," noted Woods in 2006, when he was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters in recognition of his success as a business leader and philanthropist. "It paved the way. I am truly indebted."
