Almost 40 of the company’s employees participated by donating blood.

“We recently got a call from the Red Cross saying their supply of blood is at its lowest level in 15 years,” said Walter Ledda, CEO of Morgan Drexen. “We rallied the troops. Morgan Drexen is about helping people, and this fits right into one of our most important values: Charity. I’m absolutely proud. It’s another great day for Morgan Drexen.”

According to the Red Cross, more than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day in the United States and there is a constant shortage; the organization reports that it currently needs more Types B-negative and O-negative blood, the type most often requested by hospitals. The blood is used in treatments for a number of ailments, including sickle cell disease, a variety of cancer patients, as well as many emergency room visits. More than five million people in the United States receive donated blood per year. Donating is also extremely easy to do and one donation can benefit up to three people.

“It was great, it was easy, and it was relatively pain-free. I feel like I did a good deed that will benefit a lot of people,” said Andrew Rivera, an employee at Morgan Drexen.
